Long lasting changes to your body’simmune, lymphatic, circulatory and digestive systems.

Cold water immersion can relieve the symptoms of many medical conditions and promote a sense of health and well-being. When cold-water hydrotherapy is utilised on a regular basis it can create long lasting changes to your body’s immune, lymphatic, circulatory and digestive systems that enhance the overall quality of your life.
The Cold Spa provides an optimum therapeutic effect for post exercise recovery and prevention of injuries as your muscles are recovering quicker, therefore your muscles are performing at a higher level for longer which in turn severely reduces the chance of injury from muscle fatigue. The cold eliminates fatigue and maximise recovery meaning your body is extra energised for your next training session.

⌊ How the Therapy Works ⌉
Temperature
∗ Ideal temperature range of 5° – 7° Celsius
∗ Reduces heat and inflammation
∗ It significantly increases circulation
∗ During treatment the body undergoes vascular constriction,
when exiting the spa they experience a rush of blood to raise the
temperature
∗ Helps control enzyme deterioration on tendons & ligaments in the
early stages of injury
Salts
∗ High concentration of epsom salt and course sea salt
∗ Healing effects of salts water has been accepted for centuries. For
open wounds to arthritis
∗ It has a poultice effect as well as an endothermic draw
Aeration
∗ Provides a massaging effect
∗ Continuous movement of water ensures skin contact temperature
remains consistently low
∗ Significantly increases the oxygen of the water
Depth
∗ Depth increases pressure exerted which aids fluid and waste
dispersal
∗ Water depth is adjustable dependent upon the position and severity
of injury
Biological Control
∗ Temperature and salt levels combine to eliminate the transfer of
microbiological infection
∗ Proper chemical & salt maintenance allows for thousands of
successive treatments

⌊Why It Works⌉
After a workout your body needs to “repair” itself to prepare for the next
training session. It does so with the help of blood vessels that bring oxygen to your muscle tissue while removing waste products. The most common being lactic acid build up. Too much lactic acid build-up can cause your muscles to not function optimally and will often lead to fatigue and injury. Cold Spa treatments ranging from 2-8 degrees will immediately reduce swelling while flushing lactic acid out of your body.
The cold water causes your blood vessels to tighten and lowers the damaged tissue’s temperature. This helps flush the lactic acid and helps to reduce swelling and inflammation, causing a return of oxygenated blood which helps to muscles to recover. It also numbs the nerve endings which means relief from pain.
By incorporating regular Cold Spa treatments as part of your training program you will find that you don’t need to reach for the pills, because you have found an easy, natural way of expediting recovery and comfort.

Promotes Weight Loss
Cold water immersion has shown to boost the body’s metabolic response. Not only does cold water force the body to work harder to keep us warm, meaning burning more calories in the process and in the long run as it boosts your metabolism. It also has an unexpected impact on the type of fat we burn and produce.
According to a 2009 study, researchers found that cold water immersion can eliminate white fat, which is the body fat that piles up around the waistlines and thighs when we consume too many calories.
Improves Cardio Vascular Circulation
Cardiovascular circulation is rarely something that crosses our minds, but it happens to be one of the most critical components of our overall health and well-being. With poor cardiovascular circulation, not only is the blood flow compromised, the heart becomes stressed. Ultimately this leads to fatigue, headaches, high blood pressure, muscular cramping or even heart attack or stroke. With improved circulation you can improve your heart’s health and enhance mental performance, boost your immune system giving you more strength and energy.
Cold water immersion also stimulates blood flow. When the body is immersed in cold water, the blood rushes to your vital organs. Your heart then is forced to pump more efficiently, pushing blood through all your vessels, supplying every part of your body with oxygen and nutrients.
Doing this on a routine basis will help promote healthy blood circulation and ultimately a healthier body.
Improves Lymphatic Circulation
The lymphatic system is a network of vessels that run throughout the body helping to take away waste, bacteria and microbes from your cells. Essentially cleansing your body. Unlike your blood, which is constantly moved through your body by the heart your lymph fluid does not have a central pump. Instead your lymphatic system relies on muscle contraction to pump the lymph fluid through the vessels.
So if you don’t exercise your lymphatic system become slow and inefficient.
The fluid stagnates and toxins build up, manifesting in colds, joint pain, infection and even disease.
Cold water immersion causes your lymph vessels to contract, forcing your lymphatic system to pump lymph fluids throughout your body flushing the waste out. This then triggers the immune system’s white blood cells to attack and destroy any unwanted substances in the fluid. The cold water affects the lymphatic system which in turn affects the immune system, which ultimately keeps you feeling happy and healthy.

Testimonials
______
"I do an ice bath after every single match throughout the year, whether it has lasted one hour or four hours, because I just feel it helps me with my recovery."
Andy Murray - Professional Tennis Player"We used the Human Hydro Spa with great success at the Lions Super Rugby Franchise for three months. We follow a strict Recovery Protocol here which includes Ice Baths post training and matches. The Cold Spa is very convenient as three players can recover in it at a time, the temperature and spa jets can be controlled to achieve the best possible effect. I had players in for 5 minutes continuous or intermittently for 1min x 5. I also used it successfully in combination with other modalities for the treatment of acute muscle, tendon and ligament injuries to control pain and inflammation. I would recommend the Cold Spa for any sports team."
David van Wyk - Lions Rugby Union Team PhysioBefore the 2017 Comrades marathon, recovery was incredibly important to me. I was using the ice bath two to three times a week and could feel a very big difference in my legs. I recovered a lot faster after my hard sessions. It didn’t only help with quick recovery, but also helped with sorting out my niggles. I was struggling with tendonitis in my left foot and could not believe how quickly I recovered with the use of the ice bath. The Ice bath was a big contributor to my success this year and I can really recommend it as part of your training program. It will definitely form part of my build up to Comrades 2018. The ice bath will be a positive addition in the preparation for any type of race.
Charne Bosman - 2016 Womens Comrades Winner"Chad le Clou & his brother are also taking their recovery to the next level. "
Chad le Clou & Brother - Olympic, World & Commonwealth Games ChampionI included Cryo Recovery as part of my training program leading up to the 400km non-stop 2017 Munga Trail run. I went twice a week leading up to the Munga and I never had any niggles in my legs during training and they felt great at the start of the race. I firmly believe Cryo Recovery works so I continue to go once a week! Everyone who is serious about their training and racing should include Cryo Recovery sessions in their training programs.
Nicky Booysen - 2017 Women 400km Munga Trail Winner"I will like to thank Human Hydro Spas for allowing us to use the Ice Bath for 3 weeks, it has been a tremendous experience for the players to use the ice bath."
Coltrane Munyai - Supersport United FC Team ManagerMy build up to Munga 2017 400km nonstop trail had some high mileage weeks (200km per week). I used Cryo session 2 to 3 times per week. Cryo immediately put your own body’s recovery mechanism in TURBO mode. After Munga, I immediately went back to Cryo as I only had about 1 month to recover for Comrades. Without Cryo I would only be able to do half the training and races I currently do per year. Recovery is every serious athlete’s best friend. So if you are serious about improving, start looking at your recovery as much as you do at your training.
Bennie Roux - 2017 Men 400km Munga Trail Winner
